Movies on Television vs Movies in the Theatre

Looking for opinions on this everyone. I have a lot of friends that refuse to go to the theatre because of prices, big crowds, noisy seat neighbors, can't pause the movie if you have to go to the bathroom, if you want to buy something to eat or drink you should be ready to take out a loan on your house, you know the list. Still me personally nothing beats the theatre experience. If you are watching an action movie, monster movie, horror, or even something that you know will be able to really pull you in you can't do any better. Still I am an avid Netflixer. I mean unless you have a lot of time, money, and no social life there is no way you are going to see every current movie, heck I'm still trying to catch up with a lot of them, and suggestions from friends. There is also the nice advantage of when you have a DVD don't pay per person that is watching it. I can definitely understand both sides of this argument but I'm wondering what everyone else out there thinks.

I think that the theatre is an experience. The act of watching a movie on opening weekends, where the audience actively participates (like clapping and cheering when the "Star Wars" fanfare starts or holding there sides in laughter), is a singular experience that can't be matched at home.

Nevertheless, of course the home movie has its place. Nothing is better than watching a movie you've already seen with a pretty girl. Who has also already seen it.

You summed it up pretty well, and as you stated there are always pros and cons. One thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the movie itself.

Not all movies need to be seen on the big screen, nor are they worthy to be on the big screen. However not all movies translate well to your home theatre, although with all the headway made in home entertainment you can have that theeatre experience without all the negs you spoke of. Yet, there will always be movies that will need to been seen at a theatre...

All points are true, then in theaters there is a social element. It is like an event, one gets dressed, has non-verbal contact with pretty people etc.

Peronally I prefer torrents (free, almost everything, painless download, social feedback on the content). It is convenient to watch it on a laptop (15") in bed (maybe with someone by the side), pause, change angle, take it with you in the bathroom :)
