8: The Mormon Proposition

As Documentaries this is wonderfully done. No matter what side of the fence you sit on with this issue it is good to get all the information you can. While this film is heavily sided with the no on prop 8 people (just in case there is anyone reading this prop 8 was on the rights of marriage equality in the 2008 elections) that is to no fault of the film makers. They did try to interview the Mormon church, and the parents of a suicide victim. I honestly hope that whether you are pro or con this issue you at least see this movie to get a view point as to why many people feel the way they do.

I give this film an A.

As a gay man and a former member of the Mormon Church, I thought this film was well done. As you mention it is a tad one sided but again no fault of the filmmakers. I felt the film accurately portrayed the hatred and lies the Mormon Church used to further it's anti-gay agenda. It is amazing how a group who faced such horrible persecution can turn around and do the same to others simply because they want to force the world the live as they believe. This film was very enlightening and in the end served as a reminder of how much better off I am without the Mormon church. Religious bigots are the cancer that plagues this world and this film showed that. There was only one discrepancy I found and that was in the way the filmmaker portrayed the church's view on the previous life and the afterlife. While it is true the Church believes we lived before coming to earth and will live on in spirit form after we die. I don't remember it being taught to me as the filmmaker portrayed it here. Either way this is a must-see film.
